Indianapolis Ballet 2:00

“Hello, I’m Victoria Lyras, Founding Artistic Director of your Indianapolis Ballet.”

“Hi, I’m Chris Ligner, Founding Company Dancer of your Indianapolis Ballet.”

“We are currently rehearsing an evening of George Balanchine. Performed at the Toby Theater at Newfields September 27, through the 29th.”

“George Balanchine is regarded as the father of American ballet, and is respected by dancers all across the world. Throughout his life, George Balanchine gave ballet a fresh and modern look, allowing dance to reflect the way people saw the world in the mid 20th century. The Indianapolis Ballet is deeply honored to be entrusted to perform Balanchine’s works.”

“It is a process that we have to reviewed to make sure our dancers have the technical capacity, musicality, speed, grace, and athleticism to be able to perform these works. This particular program brings something for everyone.”

“There are 3 pieces. We start with Allegro Brillante, we go to Sonatine, and then we go to who cares to wrap everything up. The first piece Allegro Brillante, Balanchine used to say that it was everything he knew about classical ballet in 13 minutes. Its like getting shot out of a canon”

“Sonatine is a gem of a ballet with music by Maurice Ravel. Its a very simple duet. There’s live music, the piano is situated on the stage, and we’re fortunate to have concert pianist Panois Lyras playing for us.”

“Who Cares is pure Americana. All Gershwin music. 24 dancers in almost 40 minutes. Its like New York City unfolds directly in front of you. Tickets run from $25-45 with discounts for seniors and students. Just go to our website at indyballet.org or give us a call at 317-955-7525.”

“You don’t want to miss this program.”
